Pennsylvania has awarded $37 million for 515 public EV charging ports in the Philadelphia region, funding a mix of neighbourhood charging and faster sites at shops and roadside businesses.

The awards cover Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties. They form part of the Community Charging phase of the federal National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure programme, with PennDOT announcing the southeastern round on 28 October.

The list reaches beyond highway fast charging. Philadelphia’s allocation includes 157 on-street Level 2 ports through It’s Electric PA, while Positive Energy received support for 54 DC fast-charging ports across 11 Philadelphia Parking Authority lots. Other awards cover parks, shopping centres and convenience-store sites.

That spread gives the funding two distinct roles: longer-stay charging near where people live and spend time, and quicker stops for drivers continuing a journey. The 515-port figure covers planned installations, not equipment already available to use.

PennDOT’s programme page records 71 awards in the southeastern round. Additional Community Charging rounds cover western, central and eastern Pennsylvania, with their own application and award timetables.
